Content: Subject: Announcement of the amendments to the Classification, Content, Method and Release Timing of Alarm Signals for Nuclear Emergency, and shall come into force from the date of promulgation.

Legal Basis: Paragraph 1 of Article 36 of the Disaster Prevention and Protection Act.

Announcement Items:
  1. The alarm signals used in this Announcement refer to the alarm signals specified for nuclear emergency response. The alarm signals not specified in this Announcement are applicable to other relevant announcements.
  2. The classifications of alarm signals contain go-off and alert-lifted alarm signals for nuclear emergency.
  3. The content and methods of alarm signals are as follows:
(1) Content
  1. Go-off alarm signal for nuclear emergency: The frequency of alarm signal is between 300 and 800 Hz. It goes off as “rings for one second, stops for one second” and repeats for twenty-five times. Thus, the alarm signal sounds for fifty seconds. Then, forty-second voice broadcast follows. The alarm signal and voice broadcast shall play twice and will continue to be transmitted according to the situation. The content of voice broadcast is shown as appendix.
  2. Alert-lifted alarm signal for nuclear emergency: The frequency of alarm signal is the same as Go-off alarm signal. The alarm signal for Alert-lifted is “rings for fifty seconds”. Then, twenty-five-second voice broadcast follows. The alarm signal and voice broadcast shall play twice and will continue to be transmitted according to the situation. The content of voice broadcast is shown as appendix.
(2) Methods: The alarm signals are released through the Public Alert and Notification System previously established by the licensee, and may also be broadcasted via mobile vehicles.
  1. The release method of the alarm signals is decided by the National Nuclear Emergency Response Center (NNERC). The licensee shall execute the command ordered by NNERC, and notify the media for immediate broadcast.
  2. The release timing of alarm signals is decided by the NNERC in accordance with the progress of the nuclear emergency.
